Mission & Activities
Small Projects Istanbul (SPI) is a grassroots NGO running a community education center in the Çapa-Şehremini neighborhood of Fatih, Istanbul.
Our main goals are to enable access to quality education, develop a strong sense of community and provide services to ease the process of resettlement and integration for displaced Syrians in Istanbul.
We provide access to formal as well as supplemental education that will assist students and families from Syria to succeed in Turkey and beyond, paving the way for better opportunities in the future. SPI offers school sponsorships to facilitate the return to formal education for primary and high school aged children who would otherwise not be attending school.
We provide a weekly program schedule of language classes for learning Turkish, English and German for different levels and ages as well as other creative activities such as art and music.
We also manage a women's handicraft collective to provide skills development and livelihood support.

Source of funds
To date all funding has been sourced through online crowdfunding campaigns, direct private donations and fundraising events organised directly through SPI or by a supporting group or organisation. A significant proportion has come from generous private donors in Australia, the US and the UK. Whilst many events have been consistently supported by local residents of Istanbul.
