Mission & Activities
Rusihak's vision is a world of human dignity for people with mental disabilities.
Through field monitoring, awareness campaigns, public activities and research, they are working on the respect in Turkey of Article 12 and 19 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2006 and by Turkey in 2009.
It is estimated that in Turkey 12m people are at least once in their livetime impacted directly or indirectly by mental problems.
They are working closely with national and international NGOS and with 7 mental health institutions in Istanbul (Bakirkoy, Erenkoy), Manisa, Elâzığ, Bolu, Samsun and Adana.
At the moment, they are working on 4 projects:
- PERSON: A project in collaborations with NGOs in the Balkans to raise awareness around the issue of equality before the law (article 12)
- A documentary "DEPO - Life in a Mental Health Institution"
- ILNET: Independent living project (art 19)
- A classroom full of differences: project for children with and without disabilities (full inclusive education model)
